Basic Information:
Ye Heng-yin's A Guide to Gynecology is a Qing dynasty primer on traditional Chinese gynecology. This little book (so small it fits in your pocket) covers the main patterns of menstrual diseases, pre- and postpartum diseases, various types of abnormal vaginal discharges, and a number of so-called miscellaneous female breast and genital diseases. When it comes to the treatment of these conditions, Ye focuses on a core repertoire of the most famous formulas in Chinese medicine, such as Si Wu Tang (Four Materials Decoction), Si Jun Zi Tang (Four Gentlemen Decoction), Er Chen Tang (Two Aged [Ingredients] Decoction), Xiao Yao San (Rambling Powder), and Bu Zhong Yi Qi Tang (Supplement the Center & Boost the Qi Decoction). Ye shows how one can treat the full range of gynecological complaints by modifying these well-known Chinese medical formulas with various additions and subtractions. If one memorizes the key materials presented in this little book, they will have learned the main points of Chinese gynecology.
