Basic Information:
There are two distinct ways to view herb or drug actions, effects, toxicities and interactions: firstly there is the purely bio-chemical view favoured by the industrial medical professions; secondly there is the description of actions in terms of Chinese Herbal Medicine. On the one hand, the deeper a Practitioner goes into and becomes competent in using Chinese herbal medicines with patients who may be under treatment with industrial pharmaceuticals also, the more he or she realises that it is only possible to fully understand the latter in terms of the former. On the other hand, the industrial pharmaceutical perspective is the dominant school, at least in economic terms, and in fact it often touches upon actions of herbs which confirm what the older tradition has known for millennia.

Whenever Bob Flaws touches upon approaches or medicines outside the TCM sphere his uncanny genius for homing in on the common ground while not compromising either perspective never fails to enlighten and inspire confidence. His hand is quite apparent here in this book. This book is a gem of a tool for all serious Chinese herbalists, produced by Fred Jennes, an educationist and systems analyst with a profound grasp of Chinese Herbal Medicine, with Bob Flaws.

This book and companion CD is a complete guide to detailed biomedical and Chinese medicine information on over 100 of the most important formulas you use every day. The companion CD is searchable by formula name, herb name, or class of Western drug. This book will help every reader:
