Diagnosis and acupoint stimulation of the ear points is an ancient and traditional part of Chinese medicine, with written records dating to the Spring and Autumn Period and references to ear points and indications in venerated texts such as the Magic Pivot (Ling Shu) and Inner Canon (Nei Jing).
Ear acupuncture is used for diagnosis and treatment of a variety of internal and external conditions. It is straightforward to learn and practice, safe and free of harmful side effects, and convenient and inexpensive, requiring few tools and materials and administered even at home.
This text present highly useful information that can be quickly adapted for clinical facility. It precisely lays out the indications and applications for ear acupuncture, the characteristics of point selection, and the principles of prescription formation. Using charts and descriptions, anatomical areas and points on the external anterior and posterior surface of the ear are described and depicted. The distribution patterns and classification, as well as standard names, locations, and indications for roughly 87 ear points are included. The theoretical basis and methods of ear diagnosis, including inspection, palpation, and electrical detection are described. Diagnostic indicators for 100 commonly seen conditions are delineated.
A variety of therapeutic methods including seed acupressure, filiform needling, plum blossom needling, ear massage, and magnet therapy are presented. There is an extensive section dealing with treatments, and clinical case studies for more than 132 health disorders.
